The local and national institutions of democracy are losing power. Citizens and politicians increasingly disengage from each other in what is becoming a vicious cycle.
Many people no longer believe in the institutions of democracy and are not prepared to support them, and governments cannot govern without the support and consent of the people.
Citizens disengage from politicians who seem to be out to score debating points against each other rather than seeking the truth through dialogue. Politicians then see the people as ill informed and not worth listening to.
nef is working to reverse this cycle by:
- Developing new methods of consultation.
- Developing new ways for communities to create a shared future though visioning.
- Creating new democratic spaces in which people can meet, learn about and discuss issues.
- Showing the benefits of participative approaches.
